The Hawk Watch
Continues!

by Jamie Goad

This is an update on our Guyan Hawks. I've been told that the hawks are not Red Tailed Hawks but a Red-Shouldered Hawk or a "Hen Hawk".

Red-Shouldered hawks are large birds with long tails and heavy bodies. Adult Red-Shouldered hawks have a brown head, dark brown back and reddish underparts with brown streaks. The tail of the Red-Shouldered hawk is dark brown with white bands.

If you've been on the course, you probably noticed we have babies in the nest. I've really enjoyed keeping up with their growth. The pictures I'm sharing with you are pictures that Dr. Werthammer took. These pictures capture the true beauty of the birds. You will notice in one of the picutres, the hawk has actually been hunting and carring food back to the nest.

I hope you are able to enjoy these pictures as much as I have.

Thank You, Dr. Werthammer, for such great camera work!
