The
Guyan Golf Course was built in 1922 in the east section of Huntington.
The course has been the site of numerous tournaments including
U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open Qualifiers and the Marshall University
Invitational.
The par 71 Guyan has also hosted several West Virginia Opens.
The first, in 1936, was won by Sam Snead. Snead also qualified
for his first U.S. Open at the course.
Guyan
measures 6,456 yards from the championship tees, and features
medium-sized greens with just enough woods to make it interesting.
This
traditional-style course has tree-lined fairways built on rolling
terrain, and water comes into play on one hole. The
most difficult hole is #2, a 444-yard, par 4, requiring a long
and accurate tee shot up a narrow, tree-lined fairway.
